maryI’ve been on a Guadalupe kick ever since I used this photo in a newsletter earlier in the month.

(Its from a photo I took at a grave outside of Tupac, Arizona. I’m so taken with all the flowers and frivolity of it. Clearly devotional.)

The image stayed with me. And my home is filled with Her. And I hear this from others–mostly non-Christians. I got curious. What’s the story here?

Then a book jumped in my arms at the library, so I started researching. (I can take a hint!) And She drew me deeper.

Her Story (Official Version)

I discovered that she appeared 4 times to an Aztec man (Juan Diego) who had converted to Christianity. She kept telling him to go see the local bishop about creating a church for her on the hill where she appeared. He kept trying to dodge this task. It was too big for what he felt capable of. He’d walk a different way and she’d show up.

Her fourth and final visitation she simultaneously appeared to his uncle who was on his deathbed. And then miraculously got better.

But here’s the coolest part. Since Juan Diego felt so reluctant to talk to the bishop, She encouraged him to gather flowers in his cloak. It’s winter, there were no flowers frowing elsewhere, but the top of the hill was filled with birds, flowers, fragrance and song.

So he bundled up the flowers. When he finally got to see the Bishop (he was made to wait for some time) and opened the cloak, the room filled with the scent of roses. And Her image was emblazoned on the inside. That’s the image we see everywhere. (Similar to what’s below.)

And its been bombed, had acid spilled on it and tested. Its apparently pretty special.

Did you know:

In Mexico she was/is often called, “La Morenita”, which means The Dark Woman.

She’s dark skinned and pregnant.(highly unusual for Virgin Mary….except as Black Madonna….)

She’s was often called Tonantzin which is “our dear Mama” in ancient Aztec dialect

I’ve often felt she could easily be Mary Magdalene. She wears the colors that are attributed to her.

Her Story (Divine Download Version)

So not totally wanting to rely on the Catholic priest’s version of her, I asked my guides about Guadelupe. The response I got speaks to all of us who are on a journey of Spirit awakening and creating a new Earth:

My guides started with, “The One who is known as Guadalupe wishes to speak to you. She is seen in your time as Mary, the Great Mother and that is right and true, though she is not fully the Being the Catholics know (or wish) her to be.

She is her own enlightened Soul which is why she is venerated as a unique and separate manifestation of the Great Goddess, which she truly is.

Whenever a great being makes her (him) self known, she is always seen through the eyes of that time and place. The understanding of that day and time would place her as the Catholic’s Great Mother, Mary.

Appearing in another land to other eyes and hearts she could have been seen as Shakti-ma or the great White Tara or Quan Yin. You can only see what you are prepared or programmed to see.

So Guadalupe, which means Great Mother, would be seen through that Catholic lens. Given the upwelling of interest in her as a result this is the only manifestation she could have taken there at that time. With Aztec culture on the wane, with imperial Spain on the rise, there was little else to be expressed. But we will let her speak to you and for herself as she is most capable to do so.”

And then Our Lady of Guadalupe said, “Greetings dear shining one. I am delighted to make your acquaintance. I see much interest in my expression and am pleased to notice the many aspects of my image in your home and life.

“Yes its true and most have been gifts, interestingly enough. I have not sought them, but they have come to me, “ I replied.

Yes I understand, Guadalupe said. “I come as a force of love and light. To uphold you in times of darkness and defeat, much as I did in Mexico when the Spaniards were overtaking. I was not a vehicle for conversion or subversion, but of comfort and hope. Please see me in this light now.

“Seems like perfect timing right now as many I speak to are feeling a bit of darkness and despair, tiredness and loss of hope or enthusiasm for their path,” I remarked. “It feels like a long weary journey…”

Guadalupe understood and elaborated, “Yes, you and those you speak of have been on a long travail. And it is not over yet — you are running a longer race than you have trained for in this lifetime and it challenges your steadfastness and perseverance.

You you are encultured to fast, quick, skyrocketing success. That is not this journey. So instead, take comfort in my love. Know that all is well. And that there is no rush.

Follow your own joy. Let that be your path. And invite others to join. That will be the simplest and most effective manner to bring you to the places you desire.

And after all, it is only your one life that you can live. Live it well and fully for it is over in a heart-beat. Love to you, dear darling,” said Guadalupe.

Her kindness and sweetness was palpable. And yet she felt deep, old and strong. I felt loved by her and it inspired deep joy and gratitude for my day.

May it bring you the same to yours….Namaste!
