Think about this: when you do something that is “self care”, its really soul care right? What’s your form of self care?

Whether its meditation, prayer, talking to a dear friend, taking a walk, writing in your journal or working out— it feels good inside for a deep and tender part of you.

Its good for your Soul, isn’t it? I wonder if we thought it was “good for us” as a spiritual practice, we might be more inclined to give this to ourselves.

I’ve been pondering why it’s so difficult for most women to give to ourselves and take care of ourselves. It’s kind of obvious and yet obscured by modern culture.

For centuries, millennia even, women were undervalued as non-important, traded as property, sold as slaves (even still!).  We were the means for someone else’s end.

We learned at a deep level that we were not valued.

So when the world we lived in shifted into a new paradigm of women’s worth, our internal programming is still old-school.  Its unconscious patterning.

Our lives (and planning calendars) today reflect this.  We often don’t even show up on our own to-do lists. You know what I mean: everyone and every thing else is on there. But you aren’t.

Many women admit to to me that they feel guilt if they take time daily for themselves; a sure sign they don’t believe at a core level that they are worth it.

We are very willing to do and be for others, but are we willing to stand for and show up for ourselves. And how?

What gives you guilty pleasure?

I don’t mean things that are bad for you, I mean the things that are good, that light you up inside that you don’t feel you have a right to enjoy.

For you it might be painting, reading a magazine cover to cover in the middle of an afternoon, stopping for coffee, having a glass of wine with a friend after work, before the kids and/or partner and home, everything-that-is-your-life overtakes you.

Treat yourself to something you really really love, that gives you pleasure. Allow yourself to enjoy the blessed life you have. It’s a good one, and here’s to learning to enjoy it. One breath, one sip, one moment at a time.

When we are present we are aligned with our Truth and Source too! God/goddess is within you, calling you forth to do your big work, do you hear Her calling?
